Visit Lisbon

Would you like to visit Lisbon while you are in the Algarve?  Now that the motorway system is so comprehensive, it's actually only about a 3 hour car drive to get there but perhaps you don't particularly want to drive it.  One day trips are available, leaving on Fridays, from several pickup points in the Algarve.  Contact the Algarve retreats office if you are interested.

Lisbon - the capital - the city of the seven hills and venue of Expo 98 - the last World Fair of the 20th century.  Lisbon is a truly beautiful city set by the river Tejo.  It is a modern, cosmopolitan city boasting a rich historical, cultural and ethnic legacy.

You enter the city by crossing the famous “25th April” suspension bridge which spans the River Tejo.  See the impressive statue of Christ the Saviour standing high above the city.

During a guided tour of the city you will have the opportunity to visit various sites of interest such as the old quarter of Alfama and the area of Belem, situated by the river, and where you can see the renowned Jeronimos Monastery, the Tower of Belem and the monument to the Discoveries. (Entrance fees are extra)

There is free time for further sightseeing and shopping in the centre of the city before the return journey to the Algarve.

This one day trip to Lisbon is €46 per person and leaves on Fridays.  There are pick up points at:

Luz / Burgau at 05.10                               Quarteira at 05.55

Lagos at 05.20                                       Vilamoura at 06.00

Carvoeiro at 05.50                                   Armacao de Pera at 06.35

Rocha/Alvor at 06.00                               Albufeira/Gale at 06.50
