Let's Walk in the Algarve - November programme

The Algarve is an ideal place to walk but to find the real Algarve, you must park your car and explore on foot - there is so much more to this region than its famous coastline

Dr Julie Statham with colleague Peter Lammin of Portugal Walks organise a programme of walks running from September to June each year.  All are welcome to go along and there is no need to book.  There is a charge for each walk (usually €5) which includes a donation to charity.  Please note the walks start promptly and all walks will take place unless there is torrential rain!

November Programme

Wednesday November 5 - Let's Walk from Odiaxere
A fairly easy walk of just over 2 hours through the countryside with great views over the Alvor estuary.

10.30am start: meet at the front door of the church in Odiaxere - from A22 exit for Odiaxere, follow the signs into the village drive through the village and the church is off to the right (same direction as Palmares Golf).

Saturday November 8 - Lets Walk from Benafim
A moderately easy 2 hour walk through the countryside and orange groves, some gentle climbs.

10.30am start: meet at the restaurant / cafe Hamburgo on the main road from Alte to Salir, if coming from Alte the cafe is on the left just before the village of Benafim.

Wednesday November 12 - Lets walk above the River Algibre
A new fairly easy walk thats leads you above the valley with great views.

10.30am start: meet in the centre of Monte Seco. From the A22 take the Boliqueime/Loule exit and follow the signs for Loule. After passing the quarry take the first road left and at the T junction turn left and follow the road through the village of Parragil and then down hill. After about 1km there is a turn on the left to Monte Seco. Turn and follow the road up into the village where it ends by a bus shelter and becomes a track; there is a cafe close by!

Wednesday November 19 - Lets Walk around the Lake
A moderate 2.5 hour walk around the Bravura lake and through the countryside with great views.

10.30am start: meet in the car park above the lake. Leave the A22 at the Lagos / Odiaxere exit, turn left to Odiaxere & at the lights in the centre of the village turn left. Follow the signs for the Barragem, the car park is on the left with a cafe.

Saturday November 22 - Let's Walk from Amorosa to Monte Boi
A fairly easy 2 hour circular walk through countryside and unspoilt hamlets.

10.30am start: meet at the cafe on the edge of Amorosa. From Silves take the road towards Messines. After about 12.5km there is a sign on the left to Amorosa, turn here and the cafe is just down the road on the righthand side.

Wednesday November 26 - Lets Walk along the Budens Wetlands and Cliff Tops
A moderately easy walk through unspoilt wetlands close to Budens and along the cliff tops near Burgau.

10.30am start: meet at the Sports Centre, Burgau. From Lagos take the road towards Sagres and after 12km turn left at the junction towards Burgau. Follow the road for about 800m when you will see the Sports Centre on the right with parking (the centre has a cafe).
